On November 3, 2011 this bill was introduced to the 112th Congress by Rep. Steve Israel (NY-02) and Co-Sponsored by Rep. Tim Bishop (NY-01), Rep. Leonard Boswell (IA-03), Rep. Jim Costa (CA-20), Rep. Bob Filner (CA-51), Rep. Michael Grimm (NY-13), Rep. Peter King (NY-03), Rep. Tim Murphy (PA-18), and Rep. Edolphus Towns (NY-10).
This legislation would amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to allow taxpayers to designate overpayments of tax as contributions to the Homeless Veteran's Assistance Fund. This fund would go toward programs that assist homeless veterans.
This bill does NOT increase your tax liability.
At any given time during the year there are an estimated 135,000 homeless veterans within the borders of the United States. Included in that number are 10,000 Iraq and Afghanistan veterans.
This figure is a national disgrace. Please do not let this outrage continue for one more day. The passage of H.R. 3352 will provide approximately $500,000,000 per year for our national heroes.
Write or call your representative and urge them to co-sponsor H.R. 3352. They have a chance to do something special for our most cherished heroes.
