Oct 17, 2012

The Iron Workers and the National Training Fund (NTF) congratulate Christopher Smith (Local 10, Kansas City), Pete Idema (Local 700, Windsor) and Ron Ohlenkamp (Local 14, Spokane), whose total scores ranked first, second and third place, respectively, in the 2012 Outstanding Apprentice Competition.

“Watching the apprentice competitors who spend two days striving to become number one is very exciting,” said Executive Director of Apprenticeship and Training Lee Worley. “I’m impressed with the talent our apprentices displayed.  Seeing all of them compete assures us that the future of our organization is in excellent hands.“

The Iron Workers District Council of Southern Ohio and Vicinity hosted the 2012 Outstanding Apprentice Competition, which was held at the Iron Workers Local Union No. 22 Union Hall in Indianapolis, September 21 - 23. The biennial event provides a venue for Ironworker Apprentices to display their knowledge of and dedication to the Ironworking craft.

“The Outstanding Apprentice Competition illustrated the pride, skills, responsibility and safety that our programs instill in our young men and women,” said Iron Workers General President Walter Wise. “All of the competitors proved to the industry why we are the best. My thanks and congratulations to them all.”
