Darrell LaBoucan began his ironworking career in 1975 and was initiated into Local 720 (Edmonton, Alberta) in 1978 where he completed his apprentice to journeyman technical training. In 1989, former Local 720 Business Manager Mark McCullough recommended the local appoint Darrell to the position of dispatcher/BA. In 1995, Darrell was elected to the financial secretary/treasurer business manager; a position he held for over eleven years. Local 720’s membership grew by 50% during his watch. In 2005, General President Joseph Hunt appointed Brother LaBoucan to the position of general organizer and president of the District Council of Western Canada, and in March of 2010, General President Hunt further appointed Brother LaBoucan to the position of executive director of Canadian affairs. In his many years of service, Darrell has devoted much time to numerous government, labor, management construction and maintenance industry boards and committees. Brother LaBoucan currently sits on the Canadian Building Trades executive committee. On February 1, 2011, General President Walter Wise appointed Brother LaBoucan to the position of eighth general vice president of the Iron Workers International.
