John Hurley, better known as Jay, has been a great over-achiever throughout his distinctive career. His reputation as an ironworker who gets things done propelled him quickly into Local 7 (Boston) leadership positions. Hurley began service in his local beginning in 1988 as recording secretary. In 1991, he became president, in 1993 business agent, and in 1997, he assumed the position of business manager. Offices held in the New England States District Council include financial secretary treasurer, 1995; second vice president, 1992; first vice president, 2001; and New England States District Council president, 2002. Recognizing Hurley’s leadership ability, General President Joseph Hunt appointed him general organizer for the International on December 1, 2001. John F. Hurley Jr. was appointed general vice president by General President Joseph Hunt on May 15, 2005.
